Other Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Easton Zoning Board of Appeals approves teardown and rebuild of a condemned Purchase Street house. Acting Chair John Curran presided in place of Chair Ryan Cook, and the five-member panel voted 5-0 to grant a special permit for 20 Purchase Street after the Board of Health condemned the 1955 house this spring over a rat infestation and hoarding-related structural failure. Attorney Tanya Treveson said the new four-bedroom home would rise within required setbacks despite the 13,158-square-foot lot falling well short of the district's 40,000-square-foot minimum and its 150-foot frontage requirement.

One member called it "a little odd" to approve a footprint without a finished design, but the board conditioned approval on the new structure matching the plans shown. Resident Bill English told the board, "I'm in favor of it. Absolutely."
