School Committee · Meeting of October 1, 2026
Easton School Committee adopted its first districtwide AI guidelines and voted to delete its bring-your-own-device policy ahead of expected state legislation. Director of Instructional Technology Jessica Brittingham presented the AI framework, which designates Google Gemini as the only large language model approved for direct student use and sets a default disclosure level for classroom assignments, saying "core cognitive work, critical thinking, and genuine human relationships should remain at the heart of our classrooms." Members unanimously approved Superintendent Christine Pruitt's first-year goals, accepted a $20,000 Fair Share grant and a $25,000 grant for Raising Multicultural Kids programming, and approved roughly $213,000 in nursing-account budget transfers. Member Kelli Pircio raised concerns that a statewide phone ban could strip some students of a coping tool during stressful moments at school.
The committee also appointed Chair Jacqueline Weisman as its delegate to the November Massachusetts Association of School Committees conference.
