School Committee approves above-step-7 Unit A hire

School Committee · Meeting of August 19, 2026

Easton School Committee approves an above-scale hire, then closes the meeting for union talks. Meeting remotely August 19, the committee voted 4-0 to approve hiring a Unit A employee above step seven of the salary schedule, after Dr. Pruitt told members the "hard to fill" position warranted the higher placement and that HR Director Christina DiNapoli had helped interview the candidate.

Members Loomis, Hamilton and Wiseman voted yes on the roll call, with Jim's vote recorded but not audibly confirmed. The committee then voted 4-0 to enter executive session, not to return to open session, to discuss collective bargaining strategy with the Easton Educators Association and separate negotiating strategy for non-union personnel, with the chair finding public discussion "would be detrimental to the bargaining position of the school committee."
