The board voted unanimously at its July 14 meeting to close a public hearing on a revision to the town's solid waste regulation and to approve a $45,000 betterment for a septic system in failure at 70 Depot Street. Staff reported that a fuel spill of roughly 10 gallons of heating oil or kerosene at the town's mobile home park has prompted management to hire a consultant to inspect all fuel tanks on the property, with cleanup costs estimated at $45,000. The park's proposed rules remain pending at the state Attorney General's office, which has requested clarifications on six or seven provisions. One board member pressed staff to formally raise winterization with park management at the August monthly check-in, warning the board "would be less tolerant than we were last year" if above-grade water lines freeze again this winter.
